Why this scheme was created

To incentivize Punjab farmers to shift from water-intensive paddy cultivation to alternate crops, reducing groundwater depletion.

How it helps the farmer

Higher-value crops (basmati, vegetables) and cash incentive together can give 40–60% better net income than common paddy varieties.
